I snapped this picture of a floating leaf as I floated past it on a Kayak near Hampton, NB on Friday morning. Kayli and I also caught this Great Blue Heron taking flight. The log sticking out of the water was taken Aug 20 2009 in roughly the same place.
Hi Paul - 1st seems a little lost, and 2nd shot of leaf little soft? may not be getting due justice on screen but good anyway. The heron, a bit more cropping maybe, maybe landscaping more. Like the sequence. Nice work! Frank
I took about 10 of the moss and the leaf trying to capture what I saw. It was in shade so I expect the shutter speed was down a bit. The current was moving the Kayak at a fairly fast rate so composition and sharp were a challenge. Keeping the camera dry was a priority too. I did a blend of an in-focus and out-of-focus for those two images in order to punch up the colors. That would soften it some too.
With the Heron we came upon him and had moments to compose and shoot. You can tell that from where he lifts off, I wasn't quite on him and once again the canoe was twisting to the left all the while. Kayli did her best but she was in the front trying to not rock the boat...
You and I need to paddle that water sometime. Lots of interesting things to photograph.
I have always been interested in photography but since 2004 I switched from film to digital and have really concentrated on improving my photography skill. I trust this shows in the quality of images I am taking. I take photos here on my blog for my own enjoyment and share them with you in hope you, the viewer, will enjoy them too.
