Pictures taken May 19 2007

It was wet and rainy all day. I took these images in spite of the rain.
#1 - A very wet and tame little bird.
#2 - 8 - Took these pictures in an old abandoned house.
#9 - A very tame little chipmunk. Must be the weather. Had to bump the ISO to 1000 as the light was not the best. Specs are - 1/640", F 5.6, 300 mm, handheld.

Really impressive shots, Paul. The photos in the abandoned house remind me of my grandparents abandoned camp in north-western New Brunswick. I like the way you captured the signs of former habitation: hats, the tea pot, window dressings.
Is the photo of the old sewing machine treated with anything special in Photoshop? It has a slightly blended colour to it, almost like sepia toning.

Joel;

The sewing machine has been treated in Photoshop. Good eye to see that. I over exposed the image by about a stop in ACR, duplicated the image, applied Gaussian blur of 40 pixels to the second image, blended using Multiply, tweaked the exposure with Levels and Curves layers, adjusted the opacity of the second layer to suit the mood, and after flattening and converting to sRGB resized to post.

The stove picture and tobaco can picture have been touched up a bit too, just to punch up the colors some. The hats were there as we found them, just like someone had left but was planning to return sometime. The light was so poor it was very difficult to frame the image and focus. If I go back I will take a good flashlight with me.

Thanks Rule;

Another rainy day out taking pictures. I even got my Nikon damp but no fear it wiped right off. I almost always carry around an old scarf to wrap the camera in when it is wet out but I didn't have it with me here.

Paul, I have spent close to an hour viewing most of your images and I must say they are beautiful! I have been to many of the same locations as you :) Small town :) I have to say though, your pictures in the abandoned house are my absolute favorite! I love the colour and history, they tell a story. I am jealous of the location! See you soon!
